Q1 2025 Studio Update
·Hello Everyone!
We hope that your 2025 year is off to a great start; we are making a slight pivot in how we do our updates. While we have always been open to meetings and town halls, we have been lacking in the Email updates department. I have a habit of heads down working and letting time slip by without realizing that we have not done an update in a minute!
To alleviate that shortfall of mine, we are moving these updates to be public facing; a goal of mine was to bring this studio towards a transparent state both with investors and the public as a whole. While we will still have our Investor-only meeting scheduling tool, all updates will be hosted on AzureRavens.com
Studio-specific updates will be posted every quarter, while we aim to do game-specific updates every month. The monthly updates are a tall order but spread amongst the team; we should be able to get it done!
Studio Update
When it comes to keeping the lights on and the team working, we have been doing well. While still bootstrapping, we are functionally at a breakeven state with a minor infusion of cash by Founder & Creative Director Corbin Reeves every other month or so to sure up any gaps in funding or payments.
Current Contracts
At this time, we are unable to release contract-specific revenue and margin numbers, but collective revenue and average margin numbers will be released with our annual financial statements, which will be posted on our site once our wonderful accounting team has finished preparing everything.
Studio Plan 2025
We at Azure Ravens Entertainment still maintain our core commitment to delivering high-quality experiences that bring players together and tell incredible stories. While money drives all things, we are doing our best to continue building even in the challenging financial landscape of the current games industry.
- We are actively seeking additional funding to support the development and release of Ravenwood Acres, our independent Farming Lifesim RPG.
- While pursuing funding, we plan to continue to work on contract work and reinvest any profit into the development of Ravenwood Acres. Currently we are at our maximum capacity with contract work.
- We are exploring a potential Kickstarter to support Ravenwood Acres, but we want to ensure the game is in the best state possible, as you only get one shot at it.
- We are optimistic that a Q4 2025 or Q1 2026 early access release is possible should we secure additional funding.
Ravenwood Update
Progress has been moving along wonderfully; we are aiming to have another playtest, this time hosted through Steam, available for all investors and registered playtesters within the next month. The team is actively bug-fixing the latest stable build with the new map and art updates implemented. We also have a ton of cool features we hope to talk about in the coming weeks.
Map Update
After our last playtest, some of the feedback we got was that the world felt small and crowded. These are not the feelings we want to invoke when it comes to people visiting Ravenwood, a town at the frontier of humanity. So we worked with our wonderful concept artist Rodrigo, to reimagine the town of Ravenwood.
Once we nailed down the new layout, we could start realizing different locations all around the town, starting with the town center itself.
Then exploring the lake side and the festival spot where the citizens gather to celebrate their rich history and collective triumphs.
The last place I want to share with you is our dungeon entrance, which went through a massive overhaul to become a place of mystery and excitement.
Crafting Overhaul
Connor has been working diligently to overhaul the crafting system and expand it to include Alchemy for this upcoming playtest. The changes he has made to blacksmithing and crafting as a whole create a smoother experience and open up the progression path to be both clearer and enjoyable for players to explore and engage with.
Some updates are:
- Alchemy! Collect Herbs and Ingredients and make your way to the Alchemist’s Hut, where you can craft your first set of potions in the cauldron. Grind up your ingredients into Fine or Coarse Grain, and find that perfect Temperature to concoct your potions. But be careful, all sorts of things can go awry in the cauldron, such as freezing over, spilling out your water, or even exploding!
- Implemented the Quality System for crafting, allowing us to see both our current progress through the minigame and target goal to craft an item, with Quality tiers ranging from Poor and Common to Rare, Epic, or even Legendary!
- Refined the Hammering and Heating Minigames. Hammering now uses a closing-ring system that feels more rhythmic and enjoyable as you shape your item on the anvil. Heating follows suit with a more rhythmic minigame, prompting the player with a variety of short and long beats to match with each turn of the forge.
- All of the current crafting UI has been cleaned up, with new UI interfaces for each crafting lifestyle. We have also introduced the bones of our unique Discovery Crafting System, which will be available to certain lifestyles, such as Alchemy or Cooking, for you to mix and match ingredients to discover recipes on your own!
Closing Thoughts
The last year has been a wild ride, from moving the studio locations to securing new contracts in games and education. We have explored a number of paths and options we had not previously considered. This leads me to what has firmly become the studio’s internal mantra: Control the controllable, build good games, and Keep Moving Forward.
I look forward to being able to share more about our client projects, as well as videos and gifs from Ravenwood, in more game-focused updates in the future.
